Respdemop charity dinner a successful event

It was a night of celebrations cum charity at the Kelab Rekreasi SPDP Mambong (Respdemop) Charity Nite held at the Kota Padawan Community Hall over the weekend.

Apart from being entertained by two guest singers, the 800 guests also entertained themselves by joining the poco-poco dance and chipping in to charity fund.

Anna Katie appeared on the stage to sing her “Subie Birih” song while Four Kadun rendered his “Ondu Biranak Sindo”. Also appeared on stage were Paul Pona and Captain Miron Ganguly.

Earlier the dinner was graced by Minister for Social Development and Urbanisation Minister who is also the president of the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom.

The dinner that night was to mark the approval given last month by the Malaysian Sports Commission to Respdemop which means it is now a legitimate entity.

The organisers also prepared a special cake to celebrate the conferment of Panglima Setia Mahkota Award which carried the title 'Tan Sri' to Mawan.

Sharing the occassion with Mawan was his wife Puan Sri Julia Suntung and their children. Mawan was one of the three Dayak personalities conferred with this award in conjunction with the Yang Di Pertuan Agong's birthday on June 4.

The dinner saw funds raised to help Respdemop organise its activities. Mawan himself pledged RM15,000 from the Ministry, while State Barisan Nasional secretary general, who is also Assistant Miniuster for Public Health Datuk Dr Rundi who was also present at the dinner pledged RM5,000.

Also present were State Assemblyman for Bengoh Dr Jerip Susil, four political secretaries to the chief minister, namely Paul Igai, Peter Howell Jilan, Watson Bangau, Kijan Toynbee and Cr.Babra Mawan.

Respdemop, the only recreational club for SPDP members is a platform for SPDP Mambong branch to interact and close rapport through sports, recreational and welfare activities.
Impressed with Respdemop’s commitment in uniting the party members of all races and its commitment towards charity and welfare, Mawan later called on other branches of SPDP and members in the other divisions to emulate the noble cause of Respdemop.
From just an ordinary club for members to meet and hold sports activities, Respdemop is now a legal entity registered with the Malaysian Sports Commission.
At the function Mawan officially launch the establishment of the club and hand over the registration certificate to the club’s president Captain Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan Sirat.
Captain Zainuddin said part of the collections will be used to help one of the club’s member Banyeng Siwa from Kampung Simpok, Padawan, who is partially paralyzed after falling from 20 feet high while repairing a house.
Banyeng, 44, a self-employed and have three young children has lost his earnings and unable to go work due to injury in the waist and his broken hand and is in need of money to pay for his treatment cost.
The club will also help another member who will undergo eye’s operation which he injured in a road accident early this year.
Last year Respdemop helped to finance the construction cost of a new house for a single mother family, Rosnah Sija from Kampung Garung at Jalan Puncak Borneo.
The club also donated food aid and clothing to fire victims at Rumah Likik in Pakan, donating wheel chairs to those in need of the equipments, donating to fire victims in Kampung Punau and a family in Batu Kawa.
"The money we raised will be donated to those in need especially to the poor and those unfortunate,” said Zainuddin who is also coordinator of SPDP Mambong division.
SPDP Mambong through Resdemop had been active in the Mambong parliamentary constituency though it is not represented by elected representatives from the party.

Apart from organising various programmes, Resdemop was also involved with the campaigning for BN during the recent state election with saw BN won in Tarat and Bengoh, both under Mambong.
Resdemop is also active in numerous charity initiatives in Mambong, and on Saturday night it donated funds for the construction of the new St Mary Magdelene church building at Kampung Jambu.

Mawan said Respdemop deserved to be praised for various services to the people and to bring them together under the BN umbrella. "I hope SPDP members in other areas would emulate
Resdemop," he said.

Meanwhile Respdemop has pledged to continue serving the people in the constituency through its welfare projects.

“The club has planned to organise more such projects this year and next year and has also planned several fundraising project for the purpose,” said Zainuddin.

Among the activities are jogathon and camping for members.
