ON the 23rd January 2011 a group of SPDP Mambong led by its chairman Captain Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan Sirat made a visit to Rumah George Ng. Nansang, Pakan, situated 12 kilometer from Pakan Town.
The modern 33-door longhouse is where the Minister of Social Development and Urbanisation Minister Datuk Sri William Mawan came from.
The delegation was received by Pemanca Mambu and Tuai Rumah George Ak Chungat on their arrival at the longhouse.
Mawan’s wife Datin Seri Julia and Councellor Babara Mawan was also presented to welcome the delegation.
At night the visitors were feted to a dinner by Datin Sri Julia’s family and the longhouse folks. A ‘berandau’ was also held.
Tuai rumah George in his speech said the longhouse folks were very happy with the visit from members of SPDP Mambong, adding that it was an honour for them to receive visitors, especailly those from as far as Mambong.
Captain Zainuddin thanked the pemanca, tuai rumah and the longhouse folks for their warm hospitality.
Prior to their visit to the longhouse they attended a unity dinner organised by SPDP Central Region at the Kinswood Hotel in Sibu and the following day delivered donations to the fire victims at Rumah Likik, Nanga Dandi, Sungai Pedanum in Pakan.
The 24-door longhouse was razed to the ground in less than 10 minutes during the 12.30 pm fire on Dec 30. The 20-year old longhouse is about 10 km away from Pakan Town.
